Miami International Airport International Traffic Surpasses JFK; FLL Looks Even More Attractive

At Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charters, we advise all our customers to fly into Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) if possible, Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) second, and Miami International Airport  (MIA) third.

The biggest reason for this advice is that FLL is located just moments from our Fort Lauderdale deep sea fishing charters. But it’s also because we, and our customers, often experience delays when flying into MIA.

Recently, MIA announced that traffic was up a whopping 9.5% from last year, which sets a new record. Looking closer at the figures, international traffic alone increased by 11%, catapulting MIA past JFK Airport in New York for most international flights. This is great news for Miami economically, but not great news for travellers, since the added traffic almost certainly means more flights.

If you’re going on a fishing charter in Fort Lauderdale and flights to FLL are not available, we recommend PBI in West Palm Beach as a fall back. PBI is about an hour away from our Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charters, but if you’re planning on renting a car it’s really not a bad drive. Just hop on 95 and you’ll be shark fishing in Fort Lauderdale or Sailfishing in Fort Lauderdale on one of our Fort Lauderdale fishing boats in no time.

Fishing Charters from Florida to the Bahamas perfect for families, couples and friends

A great vacation option for families, couples, and friends is a multi-day fishing charter to the Bahamas leaving from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.   Take advantage of the accessibility of Fort Lauderdale’s International Airport.

Fort Lauderdale is located roughly 50 miles due west of the Bahamas. The majority of our Bahamas Fishing charters leave from Port Everglades and can be fishing in the Bahamas hours after departure.

Our Fort Lauderdale fishing boats are in a class above and beyond what most people think of.  Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charters only uses higher end sportfish yachts typically 55 feet and larger.  Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charter’s boats have multiple staterooms, exquisite interior finishes and most importantly are equipped with top of the line, tournament grade fishing gear.

Our Fort Lauderdale fishing guides that run these multi day fishing trips are true professionals and frequently due these type of exotic fishing charters.  Typical multi day fishing trips range in length from about 3 nights to upwards of a full week.

Private charters give captains the opportunity to navigate their clients to remote fishing spots that many single day charters cannot reach.  Although Fort Lauderdale provides some great fishing it pales in comparison to the world class fishing found in the Bahamas.

The crystal clear water off the Bahamas provides countless fishing options.  There’s nothing better than have a dinner prepared onboard the boat with some of the freshest and most delicious fish the Atlantic has to offer.

Clients can either sleep in one of the boat’s luxury cabins onboard or choose to stay in hotel rooms for the night.

Besides fishing, clients aboard one of Fort Lauderdale fishing boats can enjoy snorkeling, sightseeing, and many other fun and exciting options the Atlantic Ocean has to offer.  After returning back to Fort Lauderdale guests can head down to Miami for a few days of shopping, dining and partying.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charters specializes in these multi-day Bahamas trips and loves planning them for our clients.

Types of Fishing Charters in Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale offers a variety of fishing options for the seasoned angler and first time fisherman.  The waters in the Atlantic Ocean off of Fort Lauderdale are rich with baitfish attracting the most desirable sport fish.

The majority of our Fort Lauderdale fishing trips take place offshore although we do have a some tarpon and snook options in the canals and Intracoastal waterways.

Depending on the season our Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charters are usually kite fishing, trolling or wreck fishing.  The types of fish in Fort Lauderdale vary due to the weather and migration patterns of these pelagic fish.  A normal catch on one of our Fort Lauderdale fishing charters can range from, sailfish, mahi-mahi, blackfin tuna, wahoo, swordfish, tile fish, snapper, grouper and more.

Fort Lauderdale fishing charters do not usually go more than a few miles of shore unless they are swordfish fishing.  Swordfish trips usually go much further offshore.  Many anglers who have previously fished in other states enjoy the close proximity of the Gulf Stream in Florida which allows them to spend more time fishing and less timing traveling to the fishing grounds.

Kite fishing with live bait is usually most effective during sail fish season in Fort Lauderdale where as trolling with dead ballyhoo works best for mahi-mahi, tuna and kingfish.  A successful Fort Lauderdale fishing guide adapts his techniques and strategies to the ever changing conditions allowing him to take advantage of the fish’s eating and migratory patterns.  A technique that works one day might not be effective the next because of a changing condition as small as current or wind speed.

Information is not readily shared among different fishing charter outfits in Fort Lauderdale because of the competiveness and egoes among captains and boats.  Fort Lauderdale fishing charters are a fun and exciting way to enjoy Florida’s unique natural resources.

What it takes to be the best fishing guide in Fort Lauderdale

The types of individuals who become Fort Lauderdale fishing guides differ drastically, but all share the common goal of catching the biggest and most fish possible.

Walk down the docks at Bahia Mar in Fort Lauderdale and you’ll see captains outside their fishing boats ranging in age from early 30’s to late 60’s.  Talk to each one of them and their story of how they were introduced to deep sea fishing usually starts at an early age.  A lot of them come from a family that either fished recreationally or professionally.

You’ll often times hear the story how they started by being a mate on a Fort Lauderdale fishing boat and worked their way up to captain of the boat and sometimes to owner of the boat.  On the other side of the spectrum you meet captains that worked a normal nine to five job for a number of years but couldn’t escape their desire to run a fishing charter boat.

A handful of captains are Florida natives while others are started their fishing careers up north.  Young college graduates can be found captaining some of these fishing boats too.

There are a few Fort Lauderdale fishing charters that are run by successful and well off individuals who don’t have to rely on the revenue from the their fishing charter business  to live off of.

No Fort Lauderdale fishing charter captain’s background is the same, but they all share a common passion for fishing and catching fish in Fort Lauderdale.  What makes a great fishing charter is not determined by their age, background, or economic class but by their passion for fishing and their ability and willingness to share it with others.

Fort Lauderdale Sightseeing Cruise a part of Fort Lauderdale deep sea fishing charters

Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charters not only offers world class fishing but a short sightseeing cruise.  After boarding one of our Fort Lauderdale fishing boats enjoy a 15 minute scenic cruise up the New River past some of the most exclusive and expensive waterfront mansions in South Florida.  Your Fort Lauderdale Fishing Guide will be happy to point out the estates of some famous socialites and celebrities.

Nestled among the waterfront mansions of Las Olas and Harbor Beach are the multimillion dollar yachts.  Steven Spielberg’s megayacht “7 Seas” is often seen docked at Pier 66 on the Intracoastal.  While some people consider our Fort Lauderdale fishing boats large, they are dwarfed by the yachts exceeding a couple hundred feet.  After all, Fort Lauderdale is considered the yachting capital of the world.

After our fishing boats pass underneath 17th Street Bridge guests can enjoy viewing the countless cruise ships docked in Port Everglades including the worlds largest ship, Allure of the Seas.  Before any of our guests realize it they are out in the Atlantic Ocean fishing.  Ask one of our Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charter Captains and they will tell you the scenic trip out from the dock to the inlet never gets old.

Many visitors to Fort Lauderdale pay for a sightseeing cruise that consists of a similar route that our Fort Lauderdale fishing boats take out into the ocean.  The main purpose of our charters is definitely fishing in Fort Lauderdale, but the scenic trip out to the ocean is a nice added bonus.

Mahi Mahi Fishing in Fort Lauderdale

The weather this past week has not lived up to Fort Lauderdale’s “sunny” reputation, but thanks to strong east winds, the dolphin fish (Mahi Mahi) really seem to be biting, presumably due to increased amounts of baitfish.

Mahi Mahi fishing in Fort Lauderdale has been best around 100 – 300 feet. For Fort Lauderdale, 100 – 300 feet equates to about a mile or so offshore. This is good news for the Fort Lauderdale fishing boats because it means they don’t have to use a lot of fuel to get to the fishing grounds, but it’s even better news if you’re a guest on a Fort Lauderdale fishing charter because it means you’ll spend less time getting to the fishing area and more time fishing in Fort Lauderdale.

National Airfares on the Rise, But Fort Lauderdale flights still some of the lowest in the country

Good news and bad news for those planning a trip to Fort Lauderdale this year.  According to numbers released by the U.S. Department of Transportation,  national domestic airfares rose by 10% in the fourth quarter of 2011, up from $335 in the same period in 2010.

By contrast, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport was $269 for that period, making it the fourth lowest out of the countries top 100 airports. We think that’s good news, especially for our customers planning a vacation in Fort Lauderdale who are concerned about cost.

Most of our customers are planning trips involving a Fort Lauderdale fishing charter. For many of them their deep sea fishing trip in Fort Lauderdale will be the highlight of their visit, and also one of their more expensive items.

Having low airfares helps Fort Lauderdale fishing boats and Fort Lauderdale fising captains by making Fort Lauderdale an economical vacation destination. Especially when you factor in the cost of flying a family somewhere, a difference of $80 or more per ticket really adds up.

For our Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charter customers looking for the best airfares to Fort Lauderdale, my favorite site is Kayak, which searches all the airlines’ sites as well as Expedia, Orbitz, and Travelocity and aggregates all that information on one page. This saves you tons of time and usually tons of money. You can also search multiple dates, or a range of weekends. It’s really very helpful.
