What it takes to be the best fishing guide in Fort Lauderdale

The types of individuals who become Fort Lauderdale fishing guides differ drastically, but all share the common goal of catching the biggest and most fish possible.

Walk down the docks at Bahia Mar in Fort Lauderdale and you’ll see captains outside their fishing boats ranging in age from early 30’s to late 60’s.  Talk to each one of them and their story of how they were introduced to deep sea fishing usually starts at an early age.  A lot of them come from a family that either fished recreationally or professionally.

You’ll often times hear the story how they started by being a mate on a Fort Lauderdale fishing boat and worked their way up to captain of the boat and sometimes to owner of the boat.  On the other side of the spectrum you meet captains that worked a normal nine to five job for a number of years but couldn’t escape their desire to run a fishing charter boat.

A handful of captains are Florida natives while others are started their fishing careers up north.  Young college graduates can be found captaining some of these fishing boats too.

There are a few Fort Lauderdale fishing charters that are run by successful and well off individuals who don’t have to rely on the revenue from the their fishing charter business  to live off of.

No Fort Lauderdale fishing charter captain’s background is the same, but they all share a common passion for fishing and catching fish in Fort Lauderdale.  What makes a great fishing charter is not determined by their age, background, or economic class but by their passion for fishing and their ability and willingness to share it with others.
