Watching the Cruise Ships Leave Port in Fort Lauderdale

Although not quite as exciting as a Fort Lauderdale fishing charter, one of my favorite things to do in Fort Lauderdale is watch the cruise ships leave port. Saturday and Sunday afternoons between 4 and 5 pm are the best times to watch since this is when most of the ships leave.

The best place to watch the Fort Lauderdale cruise ships leave is on a boat, because you really get the best feeling of how large these monsters are. The mac daddy is Royal Caribbean’s “Allure of the Seas” is a whopping 1,181 feet (360 meters) long, making her the largest cruise ship in Fort Lauderdale and actually in the entire world. She edged out her sister ship “Oasis of the Seas,” who is actually only two inches shorter.

If you don’t have access to a boat, you could charter one of our Fort Lauderdale fishing boats, or you could make your way onto the jetty located at the very southern tip of the Fort Lauderdale beach at Point of the Americas. This is also an exciting vantage point because many residents of the surrounding apartment buildings have cruise ship parties where they ring bells, cheer, and wave flags, presumably fueled by their happy hour libations.

If you’re one of the passengers on these cruise ships and you’ve got some time in Fort Lauderdale, our  Fort Lauderdale deep sea fishing charters are a great activity. For less than you think you can take the entire family out fishing for a half day, which fits in nicely with most cruise itineraries.
