Fort Lauderdale’s Often Overlooked State Park

Looking forward to a Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charter, but looking things to do in Fort Lauderdale that are land based? Check out one of Fort Lauderdale’s most overlooked treasures: Hugh Taylor Birch State Park.

This 180-acre park is located on Sunrise Blvd at the intracoastal just minutes from most Fort Lauderdale hotels and cruise ships. The park offers a number of great activities for visitors of all ages and activity levels. You can take a scenic drive through the park, which includes a stretch along the intracoastal waterway. The park features miles of roads and paths which are frequented by local runners who seek to escape from the hustle and bustle.

You can also go kayaking, canoeing, and hiking. Our recommendation is to pack a picnic and set up camp along the intracoastal, where you’ll have a great vantage point for watching boats go by.

Directly across from the southern edge of the park is Sunrise Harbor marina, which is frequented by large megayachts of up to 200 feet. At Sunrise Harbor you can often spot Johnny Depp’s unusual yacht named Vajoliroja, which is frequently docked there.

The park is also located minutes from our Fort Lauderdale fishing boats that are located on A1A. This makes a great activity for those that are going Deep Sea Fishing in Fort Lauderdale in the morning and then looking for an afternoon activity nearby.
