The Fort Lauderdale of today is a far cry from the seedy spring break center it once was. Now, opportunities abound for visitors and residents alike. Having grown up in Fort Lauderdale, here are my recommendations for top three things to do in Fort Lauderdale...
Deep Sea Fishing in Fort Lauderdale

The Jungle Queen
Fort Lauderdale's ultimate tourist trap is also one of my top recommendations. The Jungle Queen provides an enjoyable river cruise in Fort Lauderdale. You'll board this monster (fake) paddle wheel boat near the fishing fleet on A1A and it will take you up the intracoastal and new river to the Jungle Queen's private island (no, not actually an island but still flippin' fun). On the way you'll get a whose who of Fort Lauderdale yacht and mansion owners, plus some fun local historical information as well. At the private island you can view an assortment of captive wildlife, have some frozen libations, dinner (on evening cruises), and watch a live alligator wrestling show. Often, guests are also given the option to take photographs holding (small) alligators. It's a great activity for anyone, but especially for families.

Technically not in Fort Lauderdale, but just 20 minutes or so west is Florida's ultimate treasure: The Everglades. This expansive area of wetlands is home to a tremendous amount of wildlife including birds, alligators, crocodiles, panthers, and other mammals. A number of operators offer Everglades photo safaris by airboat, but if you're fishing focused we can help you arrange a private fishing trip using light tackle in a high speed flats boat.
