What to Bring on Fishing Charter in Fort Lauderdale

One of the most commonly asked questions among guests on one of our Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charters is "what should I bring?" The short answer is not a lot, but a lot of that depends on you.

As you can imagine, Fort Lauderdale sport fishing takes place in what is generally a very warm, tropical environment. Between the months of April and October, temperatures will likely be very warm and the sun will be very strong, therefore lightweight clothing, sunscreen, and plenty of water, should be all you need.

One exception is during the "wet season" from May to October. During Fort Lauderdale's wet season, afternoon showers and thunderstorms are very common.  These storms are usually short, but produce quite a bit of rain. If you're on a morning fishing trip you typically have nothing to worry about, but if you're headed out in the afternoon, we highly recommend taking rain protection, ideally marine foul weather gear if you have

Between November and March temperatures are usually very mild, but the occasional cold front can bring low temperatures (usually in the 50s and 60s). On these days we recommend bringing a windbreaker and sweatshirt. Fleece jackets are not recommended for windy days unless you wear a windbreaker shell over it. This will keep you comfortable on your Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charter.

Besides clothing, sunscreen and plenty of water are a must. Some fishing boats supply water, but most don't. It's better to bring to much than too little. We recommend a half gallon per person to play it safe.

If you're prone to seasickness, there are some things you can do to prepare. First of all, take a Bonine or Dramamine the night before (bring an extra pill or two with you on the boat). Many guests tell us that Bonine makes them feel less drowsy than Dramamine. Ginger is reported to be a natural nausea suppressant and we've heard many guests report they have good luck with it. Ginger Ale helps as does ginger gum. We've also seen ginger pills and there are even some Fort Lauderdale fishing captains who like to chew on ginger root.
